Ningbo Zhenjia Electric Appliances Co., Ltd. manufactures generator twist lock plugs, connectors and matched cordsets for portable and standby generator power distribution. Since 2006 we have built our business on power cords, adapters and charging assemblies, and the generator locking range sits inside that same production system: our own granulation and processing plants, in-house testing laboratory, and an overseas manufacturing base of 35,000 m² that runs the same ISO 9001 quality system as our Ningbo operation.
The range covers the locking configurations most often specified for North American generator, RV and transfer-switch work — NEMA L5-30, L14-30, L6-30, L14-20 and TT-30 — supplied as bare plugs and receptacles, molded plug-to-receptacle cordsets, and angled variants for tight panel and enclosure layouts. Buyers working through a distributor program or a fixed installation can order standard models or send drawings and samples for a custom build.
A twist lock connection holds by rotating the plug body against a spring-loaded detent, so the contact set cannot be pulled apart by vibration, cable drag or the movement of a running generator. That mechanical lock is the reason this family is used wherever a generator feeds a panel, an inlet box, a transfer switch or a distribution spider. Our catalogue is organised around the blade configuration and the current rating rather than around a single housing style.
The correct starting point is the circuit, not the housing. A 120 V generator outlet needs an L5-30 set; a 120/240 V generator with a neutral and ground needs the four-blade L14-30 set; an RV pedestal feed follows the TT-30 pattern. Once the blade configuration is fixed, the remaining choices are cable, body orientation and termination method.
| Configuration | Typical circuit | Where it fits | Ordering note |
|---|---|---|---|
| NEMA L5-30P / L5-30R | 120 V, 30 A, 3-wire | Small generator outlets, jobsite distribution, inlet boxes | Confirm straight or 90° body |
| NEMA L14-30P / L14-30R | 120/240 V, 30 A, 4-wire | Home standby feeds, transfer switches, larger portable sets | Specify conductor count and neutral |
| NEMA L6-30P / L6-30R | 250 V, 30 A, 3-wire | Equipment feeds without a neutral | Verify equipment nameplate first |
| NEMA TT-30P / TT-30R | 120 V, 30 A, travel-trailer pattern | RV shore power, pedestal adapters, generator-to-RV cords | Adapter cordsets available |
| NEMA L14-20 | 120/240 V, 20 A, 4-wire | Lower-rated branch circuits and equipment | Match to breaker rating |
Locking plugs live with repeated mating cycles, outdoor storage and cable strain. We build the bodies in impact-resistant thermoplastic with a ribbed grip that gives enough purchase to seat and release the twist without tools. Blade and contact assemblies are produced in the conductive alloys required by the relevant NEMA configuration, and the internal termination is designed so that the conductor is captured mechanically before the screw is tightened.
Most generator projects need more than a single plug. We supply the locking plugs alongside the cordsets and accessories that complete the connection, which keeps the blade geometry, cable rating and termination consistent across the whole assembly instead of mixing parts from different sources.
Field-wired and molded bodies in the L5-30, L14-30, L6-30, L14-20 and TT-30 patterns, including 90° versions for confined enclosures.
Plug-to-receptacle leads such as L14-30P to L14-30R and TT-30P to L5-30R, with cable gauge and length set by the load and the run.
Generator inlet boxes and generator wiring cable complete the fixed side of the installation, matched to the same locking configuration as the cordset.
The wider Generator Power Cords & Accessories range covers inlet boxes and wiring cable, while our general Power cord programme supplies the regional plug patterns used on the equipment side of the same projects.
Our R&D team develops and produces to customer drawings or physical samples, which is how most non-standard generator locking assemblies reach production. Typical custom work includes a specific cable length and gauge, a colour or branding requirement on the molded body, a right-angle orientation that is not in the standard list, and a cordset that joins two different blade patterns in one assembly.
Because we operate our own granulation and processing plants, the compound used in the cable jacket and the molded body can be controlled at source rather than bought in as a finished cord. That matters when a project needs a particular jacket hardness, temperature behaviour or colour consistency across repeat orders.
Our overseas manufacturing base runs in full compliance with the ISO 9001 quality management system, and every production stage is subject to defined control protocols. Products are aligned with international safety standards including c(UL)us, ETL and CE, and our compliance documentation includes Certificate of Compliance E529560, E325763 and E321611, Verification of Compliance records and Authorization to Mark.
A generator locking assembly is only correct when the blade pattern, current rating, cable and termination all agree. We prepare the configuration and quotation from the following project inputs.
| Input | What we need | Why it changes the build |
|---|---|---|
| Circuit and rating | Voltage, current, conductor count | Fixes the NEMA blade configuration |
| Mating interface | Generator outlet, inlet box or panel receptacle | Determines plug or receptacle end and gender |
| Cable requirement | Gauge, length, jacket type, colour | Sets conductor size and outer diameter |
| Orientation | Straight, 90° or custom angle | Affects body tooling and cable exit |
| Environment | Indoor, outdoor, UV, moisture, temperature | Drives compound and strain relief choice |
| Compliance target | Destination market and required marks | Confirms applicable certification route |
| Commercial scope | Quantities, packaging, labelling, delivery | Defines packing and shipment configuration |
Twist lock bodies are installed by inserting the plug and rotating it until the detent engages; the connection is released by rotating back against the spring. Correct field wiring depends on matching the conductor to the marked terminal and tightening the termination to the specified torque, with the cord grip closed on the outer jacket rather than on the conductors.
Our Generator Twist Lock Plugs manufacturer programme covers standard catalogue models and custom builds, with product manuals and installation guidance available for the assemblies we supply.
A 120/240 V generator with two hots, a neutral and a ground uses the four-blade NEMA L14-30 set — an L14-30P plug on the generator side and an L14-30R receptacle at the inlet or transfer equipment. A 120 V-only generator outlet uses the three-blade L5-30 set. The generator nameplate and the inlet rating decide which applies.
Yes. Adapter cordsets such as TT-30P to L5-30R are part of our standard range, and we build other combinations from customer drawings or samples. Send the two mating interfaces, the cable gauge and the required length, and we will confirm the assembly.
The conductor size follows the current rating, the number of current-carrying conductors and the run length, and it must satisfy the applicable wiring rules for the destination market. We confirm the gauge against the rated current and the intended use rather than applying one fixed size across the range.
We produce 90° plug and receptacle versions, including ZJ-L530P-A90, ZJ-L530R-A90 and ZJ-L1430R-A90, which keep the cable close to the mounting surface. Other angles can be developed from a drawing or sample where the standard orientation does not fit the enclosure.
Our manufacturing operates under ISO 9001, and products are aligned with c(UL)us, ETL and CE requirements. Certificate of Compliance records E529560, E325763 and E321611, Verification of Compliance documents and Authorization to Mark are held for the applicable product lines, and the document set supplied with an order is agreed at quotation stage.
Send the blade configuration, rated voltage and current, cable specification, body orientation, quantity and destination market. If a drawing or sample exists, include it and we will develop the assembly from that reference. Our team reviews the inputs and returns a configuration and quotation covering the product, packaging and delivery scope.
