Generator wiring cable

Ningbo Zhenjia Electric Appliances Co.,Ltd. manufactures generator wiring cable and generator power cords for portable generators, transfer switches, RV shore power and temporary site distribution. Our range covers NEMA L14-30, L5-30 and related twist-lock configurations in SJTW, STW and heavy-duty jacket constructions, built to cULus, ETL and CE requirements under an ISO 9001 quality system.

Generator wiring cable built for portable power

We produce generator wiring cable as part of our Generator Power Cords & Accessories line, alongside Generator Twist Lock Plugs and Generator Inlet Box. These cables carry power from a generator outlet to a transfer switch, inlet box, distribution panel or RV shore inlet, so the connector interface, conductor gauge and jacket grade must match the working current and the environment.

Our factory in Cambodia and our Ningbo operation run end-to-end production: conductor stranding, extrusion, assembly, continuity and polarity testing. We supply standard catalog cables and custom builds from drawings or samples.

Our generator wiring cable range

Product Connector configuration Typical application
30-Amp Generator Extension Cord, 4-Prong NEMA L14-30P/L14-30R L14-30P to L14-30R, 4-wire Generator to transfer switch or inlet box, 120/240 V split-phase
NEMA L5-30P to L5-30R SJTW 3-Prong Generator Extension Cord L5-30P to L5-30R, 3-wire 120 V generator feeds, job-site power, RV adapters
RV Power Wire Cord Marine Shore Boat L5-30, Heavy Duty Electrical Power Cable L5-30 locking, heavy-duty jacket RV shore power, marine and outdoor distribution
NEMA L14-30P Male to L14-30R Female Twist-Lock Power Cable L14-30 twist-lock, 4-wire Generator-to-panel runs, temporary power distribution

Application fit and selection variables

Generator wiring cable is specified around the working point, not just the connector shape. The variables we confirm before quoting are current rating, voltage, phase, conductor count, length, jacket material and the connector standard on both ends.

  • Current and voltage: 30 A / 125 V for L5-30, 30 A / 125–250 V for L14-30, with conductor gauge matched to run length and allowable voltage drop.
  • Conductor count: 3-wire for 120 V single-phase, 4-wire for 120/240 V split-phase generator feeds.
  • Jacket grade: SJTW for general outdoor use, STW or heavier constructions for high-flex and abrasion-prone site conditions.
  • Connector interface: NEMA twist-lock, flanged inlet, or bare-end cable for field termination.
  • Environment: UV exposure, oil, moisture and temperature range determine jacket compound and color coding.

Materials and construction

We build generator wiring cable with stranded copper conductors, PVC or rubber-based insulation and a molded or assembled outer jacket. Connector bodies use impact-resistant thermoplastic or rubber, with brass or copper alloy contacts and strain relief designed for repeated connect and disconnect cycles.

Our granulation plant and processing plant support in-house compounding, which helps us control jacket hardness, color and flame performance across production lots. For custom projects we can develop cable assemblies from customer drawings or samples, including non-standard lengths, color matching and private-label marking.

Quality control and compliance evidence

Every production stage runs under our ISO 9001 quality management system. Products in this family are aligned with cULus, ETL and CE safety requirements, and our certificates include UL file E529560, E325763 and E321611, plus verification of compliance and authorization to mark documentation.

  • Conductor continuity, polarity and resistance checks on assembled cables.
  • High-potential and insulation resistance testing on finished assemblies.
  • Visual and dimensional inspection of connectors, strain relief and jacket.
  • Pull and flex checks on molded joints for heavy-duty constructions.

Installation, safety and maintenance

Generator wiring cable is installed between a generator outlet and a fixed inlet, transfer switch or distribution point. Twist-lock connectors must be fully seated and rotated to lock; flanged inlets are mounted to a panel with the correct cutout and gasket. Cables should be routed to avoid sharp edges, standing water and traffic areas, and should be inspected for jacket damage, heat marks or loose contacts before each use.

We supply replacement cables and connector assemblies for existing installations, and we can match the original connector standard and length when a cable is damaged or a site is expanded.

Information we use to configure your solution

To prepare a generator wiring cable proposal, we need the electrical and mechanical details of the connection. The table below shows the inputs that let us confirm the cable construction, connector set and test scope.

Input What it determines
Generator output rating and voltage Conductor gauge, current rating, 3-wire or 4-wire construction
Connector standard on generator and equipment side Plug and receptacle type, twist-lock or straight-blade, gender
Required length and routing Voltage drop check, jacket grade, coil or reel packaging
Environment and duty cycle Jacket compound, temperature rating, UV and abrasion resistance
Target market and compliance scope Certification alignment, marking, documentation package
Packaging, labeling and delivery requirements Carton configuration, private label, shipping scope

Related products from our factory

Generator wiring cable works as a system with the rest of our generator accessories. We also manufacture Generator Power Cords & Accessories, including inlet boxes and twist-lock plugs, so a complete generator connection package can be sourced from one production base. For RV and marine shore power, our RV Adaptor range covers related inlet and plug configurations.

Frequently asked questions

What is generator wiring cable used for?

It connects a portable generator to a transfer switch, inlet box, distribution panel or RV shore inlet. The cable carries the generator's rated current at the correct voltage and phase, with locking connectors that resist vibration during operation.

Can you produce custom lengths and connector combinations?

Yes. We develop and produce generator wiring cable according to customer drawings or samples, including non-standard lengths, conductor gauges, jacket colors and connector combinations. Our R&D team reviews the electrical and mechanical requirements before tooling or assembly.

Which certifications apply to your generator wiring cable?

Our products are aligned with cULus, ETL and CE safety requirements, and our compliance documentation includes UL file E529560, E325763 and E321611. We operate under an ISO 9001 quality management system across our production facilities.

How do you test generator wiring cable before shipment?

Finished assemblies go through continuity, polarity, insulation resistance and high-potential testing, plus visual and dimensional inspection of connectors, strain relief and jacket. Test scope can be documented for project acceptance.

What information do you need for a quotation?

Send the generator output rating and voltage, connector standard on both ends, required length, environment and duty cycle, target market compliance scope, and packaging or labeling requirements. With those inputs we confirm the cable construction and prepare a proposal.

Do you supply replacement cables for existing installations?

Yes. We can match the original connector standard, length and jacket grade for replacement or expansion projects, and supply related generator accessories such as inlet boxes and twist-lock plugs from the same production base.
